General View of The Temple of KALÁBSHE, Nubia

Tipree cuts the ſituation of this the largest of The Nubian
Temples. which is considerably elevated above the river
the approach from which is by two magnificent Terraces
extending in front, the higher on-topping the lower, but
connected by ſteps. The period of this Temple is [Ptolemic], and
according to Wilkinson, built of the temple of ſtones of an earlier Temple
-and the ſculpture of which although elaborate, is inferior to
those of the earlier [Pharouia] temple - and like most others
of the later Nubian temples, unfinished.

In the face of the hill overlooking- the tower is the
ancient temple - (excavated) with the precipice of the
Ethiopian King, presenting the annual tribute to [Rauicus]
-for which ſee a particular account in Wilkinson Vl. II
& also my own journal.
