Anderson, J., Anderson, W. and Beavan, D., ‘The Scottish Corpus of Texts and Speech’. Paper delivered to Lancaster University’s Corpus Linguistics Research Group, 4 November 2004
The Scottish Corpus of Texts and Speech (SCOTS) project aims to create a large electronic corpus of both written and spoken texts for the languages of Scotland. The present version of this corpus will be launched publicly on the Web at the end of this month. In the run-up to the launch, this paper will discuss the linguistic situation which the corpus aims to reflect, introduce the corpus itself, focussing in particular on its flexibility for research, and outline the approach taken to the data, both textual and sociolinguistic. The talk will be followed by a demonstration of the SCOTS web interface.
